Forgot encrypted backup password and need to reset it

I want to create an encrypted backup, but I unfortunately forgot the password. What can I do to reset the password?

I’m coming from Windows, and I’m currently using Apple devices because iTunes doesn’t detect my iPhone.
I don’t mind if I have an encrypted backup that I can’t access.
I just want to create a new encrypted backup, but iTunes is asking for a password that I’ve forgotten.

You cannot bypass an encrypted backup password. You can guess as many times as you want, but you'll never be able to access that backup until you recall the password you created. Important passwords, especially ones that are not ever stored in Passwords, Keychain or anywhere other than the device they were encrypted on, should be written down somewhere for recall if forgotten.

KiltedTim is correct that you can create a new encrypted password protected backup, but it will not help you get any of the data from the backup you can't remember the password you used.

Thank you for your response. Could you please explain how I can do that?
Thanks!

How you can do what? If you have forgotten the encrypted passcode, you can keep guessing, but you can't do anything with that backup until you correctly enter the passcode you created. As to creating a new encrypted backup of the data on your phone as it is right now, I gave you a link (words in blue), which explains how to create a new encrypted backup. If you do create a new encrypted backup, make sure you write the password down and keep it in a safe place in case you forget it in the future.

You do not remember your encrypted backup password, I can understand.

You do not remember having created an encrypted backup, I can understand this also. (This is not true in your case)

This means the iCloud Keychain was checked while creating the encrypted backup because by default it is checked.

Look for it in the iCloud Keychain.

Did you un-check the keychain while creating the encrypted password (By default it is checked) See the pic hereunder.

You may have been given this option, as shown in the pic below, when you first checked Encrypt Local Backup

If you had unchecked, then the only option that you have is to keep trying various passwords, as there is no limit on the number of attempts.
