It will be possible, but you have to keep a few things in mind. In order to downgrade, you must have an iCloud Backup or Archive on your laptop made on the public version. So before you upgrade to iOS 27 Developer Beta when it comes out today—the public one doesn't come out until next month—ensure you create a backup and turn automatic backups off so it isn't overridden, or on your laptop in a safe space.

Also, because your data won't be syncing, and iOS 27 data may not be compatible on our current software yet, keep in mind you will likely lose messages, photos, and other data that is populated after the backup. After all you cannot install a backup with data on a newer iOS then your current devices.

beside the downgrading option, is it possible to revert from 27 beta to 18.x natural? Like when the new 18 update comes, would this(18) update be visible for me?

No. iOS 18 won't be visible to you at all at this point. If you are on iOS 27 Beta, you must be a developer and you surely are quite aware you shouldn't run a Developer Beta on your primary device. Especially, since today is the first day possible to have downloaded the 27 Beta, which will surely be riddled with issues as it undergoes rigorous testing for the next three months before released to the public in the fall.

If you did install the iOS 27 Developer version, you would have needed to make an archive backup on your computer before you installed the developer version.

Am having trouble with IOS 27 Public Beta. Want to revert back to IOS 26. Can I do that without backing up and erasing the phone first?

No. This is why Apple says to not load Beta software on your primary device. If you made an archive backup on your computer, before you loaded the beta on your iPhone you can go back and install the backup before you installed the beta. If you didn't, you can certainly go back, but you are doing to lose your data.

The phone will have to be erased to remove the beta and you will need a computer to do that. You should have had an archived backup made with a computer before the beta install so you could restore that backup.

isn't iOS 18 from 2024? the latest public one is 26.5, I used to use the beta updates but I have a feeling when I turned them off I had to completely wipe my phone and restore from a backup so if your planning on doing beta updates definitely backup your phone first. And as far as I know you can revert to old IOS releases like 18 maybe but its very fiddly and sometimes doesn't work it depends on the phone I think, not totally sure, hope this helps!

No. You cannot go back to iOS 18 under any circumstances now that you have installed iOS 27 beta. When you leave the beta program you will wind up iOS 26, period, end of story.

Next time you are tempted to install a beta (why did you install iOS 27 beta in the first place?) think twice about the consequences.

It will actually depend on your iPhone’s model. If it is capable of updating to iOS 26–which is the iPhone 11 and later or iPhone SE (2nd gen or later)—you probably won’t be able to go back to iOS 18. If your iPhone is one of the devices that support iOS 18 and not 26–Either the iPhone XR, XS, or XS Max— you could probably revert to iOS 18 after. But then you wouldn’t be able to test iOS 27. So if you’re willing to upgrade to iOS 27 and have the possibility of only downgrading to 26, then go ahead.
