If the alarm volume is too low or quiet

Do Not Disturb, the Ring/Silent switch and Silent mode don't affect the alarm sound. If you use the Ring/Silent switch or Action button to turn on Silent mode or turn on Do Not Disturb, the alarm still sounds.

If your alarm doesn't sound or is too quiet, or if your iPhone only vibrates, check the following:

  • Set the volume on your iPhone. If your alarm volume is too low or too loud, press the volume up or volume down button to adjust it. In the Settings app, you can also tap Sounds & Haptics and drag the slider under Ringtone and Alerts.
  • If your alarm only vibrates, make sure your alarm sound isn't set to None. Open the Clock app, tap the Alarms tab, then tap Edit. Tap the alarm, then tap Sound and choose a Sound.
  • If you connect headphones to your iPhone, the alarm will play at a set volume through the built-in speakers on your iPhone as well as wired and wireless headphones.
  • When you use StandBy, haptics for your alarms are disabled. To make sure that your alarm sound isn't set to None: open the Clock app, tap the Alarms tab, then tap Edit. Tap the alarm, then tap Sound and choose a Sound.

Manually adjusting the time on your iPhone in Settings to change app behaviour, like game timers, isn't recommended and can affect alarms.

Thank you. That is a very good point. My hearing may be deteriorating even more.

There is one more thing that occurred to me. I have used the same sound, Early Riser, for 4 years. My husband and I checked the dB level of this and It comes in at 60 dB. Helios and Sunny are at 70-71 dB.

I’m going to run an experiment tonight using Helios. If that’s not working, I will see about getting a louder alarm app.

Thank you for mentioning this. You gave me something to think about that otherwise had escaped me. I appreciate your input.

One other thing I thought of. I do not use Headphones with my iPhone. I wear hearing aids. Could they act just like headphones? To be clear, I do not wear hearing aids to bed at night. They are off and in their charging cradle Which is close by my iPhone.

Without being presumptuous, one would imagine you wear hearing aids because you're hearing is impaired? The chances are the volume of the alarm might be loud enough for someone without a hearing impairment, but isn't loud enough for you when not wearing your hearing aids. I'm not sure there's a solution for the volume of the alarm on the phone when you're not wearing your hearing aids. You could get Bluetooth headphones/earbuds to sleep with. But you'd want to get something which won't fall out of your ears when you sleep. Amazon, for example has a slew of earbuds designed for sleeping --> https://www.amazon.com/Best-Sellers-Sleep-Earbuds/zgbs/electronics/215743398011?tag=ustxtaddt-20

Thanks for your reply. Most of these I have applied in the past and I rechecked the settings just now. They are still at the Settings you suggested.

Every night before I put my phone on the charger, I make sure the volume button is up as loud as it can go.

The new one to me was Standby. I have turned that off and made sure that the haptics sound is turned on. We will see what happens tomorrow morning!

I appreciate your quick response.
