AssistiveTouch requires double-tap to open or respond since iOS 26 iPhone 11 Pro

iPhone 11 Pro 256GB, iOS 26.5.

This has been happening for atleast almost 1 year or maybe 8 months. Still no fix.

So, I have assistive touch iphone enabled. Usually, I lock my iphone, volume up / down, take screenshot, via Assistive Touch circle on screen.

Since updated to iOS 26, the screen is little bit unresponsive or lagging or freeze. I don't know what should I call it. I need to tap the screen for second time on any icon I want to open or even that assistive touch circle. If I tap the screen on asssistive touch circle once, it doesn't open. But for the second tap then the circle open the asssistive touch menu.

And then when I want to volume up / down / lock screen via asssistive touch circle, i need to tap for second time then it works.

I have enable on reduce motion or anything similar like that. Still unresponsive.

I have been waiting for quite long to fix but still this issue not fixed. I am affraid iOS 27 still has this issue for my phone iPhone 11 pro.

If you have any solution please let me know.

Enabling VoiceOver changes the way taps are interpreted. With VoiceOver active, the system expects a double‑tap to confirm most actions (icons, buttons, AssistiveTouch menu items, even passcode entry). A single tap is treated as “focus” or “selection,” while the second tap is the “activate” gesture.

That’s why you’re seeing the same “second tap required” behavior: iOS is following accessibility rules rather than lagging. It can feel like unresponsiveness if you’re not intending to use VoiceOver.

Go to Settings → Accessibility → VoiceOver. If it’s toggled on, that explains the double‑tap requirement.

  • Turn VoiceOver off

If you don’t need it, switch it off. Your taps will go back to single‑tap activation.

  • If you do need VoiceOver

Stick with the double‑tap gesture, or explore Settings → Accessibility → VoiceOver → Commands to customize gestures. You can also enable Direct Touch for certain apps, which lets them bypass the double‑tap requirement.

Have you read this, where in Assistive Touch you can actually choose double tap for actions --> Use AssistiveTouch on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Go through the link to see if maybe that has been checked in the Assistive Touch settings on your phone. If this isn't your issue, you have to recognize you own an iPhone released in 2019, sever years ago. The screen could be failing. The battery could be failing, especially if you have the original battery in the phone from when it was new. A visit to your closest Apple Store Genius Bar might be the best option for you at this point.

Thank you for your answer. However, your answer look like AI generated.

The problem is that previous iOS version I don't need to change anything related to AssistiveTouch. But now in iOS 26, suggested to adjust the settings.

This case happen not only for AssistiveTouch but to all which need animation movement like opening circle AssistiveTouch, tap chatbox Whatsapp app, back to previous menu in Whatsapp app or Settings iPhone, etc.

So there is no correlation between AssistiveTouch fast or slow.
