Is it safe to recycle a dead phone without erasing data?

We have an old iPhone 4 that we would like to recycle. However, it has NOT been reset and erased because it is completely dead (24 hours on a charger did not revive it). Is it safe to give to Apple for recycling in its current condition?

Another thing to know when or if your Apple device fails

you may also login to your iCloud account ~and remove

a failed one, & let no one access anything precious there.

Several things you can do from your iCloud online.

One is, you can 'disassociate any of your Devices'

while Online, from another internet access point.

A few years ago I'd hoped to extend the usefulness of

my iPhone SE(1) & had its battery checked, or replaced.

This in well-protected with indestructible LifeProof™

case, too. The SE battery Life was suspiciously LONG.

..And still showed 92% life, after 4 years' occasional use..

On removal from its ultra-protective case, an 'Animation'

took place; this only made me wish I'd had a video of it!

First, the Back unfolded ~ and pushed out the Battery.

Then, the Display followed suit, and was ejected also.

[After this happened to me, I learned how to make sure

anyone who might get my iPhone, couldn't access data.

And left my recently failed iPhone at recycle elsewhere.]

Luckily I took along an OK newer iPhone XR, that needed

only a battery. The authorized Apple service center hadn't

replacement batteries in-stock; so I pre-paid to order one.

.From Anchorage, excess freight charge pre-tariff was $165.

Not too bad. Rather than pay the Authorized independent

repairer a Disposal Fee of $15 too, I stopped by BestBuy

to look around. Got rid of that dead iPhone SE for Free.

Also got a great deal on new Otter-case for XR, for $5.

Next year's battery trip, I will take a newer model iPhone

for replacement battery; given me by friends, who had

upgraded to newest one. ~ As I've little excess funds..

This might seem trivial; to know preventative measures

for when plans totally change w/o notice, and be aware.

Anyone might have found my failed iPhone in recycle bin

or on the street, & before pro-disassembly. ~ I might have

checked to see IF I could push its bits Back, to make it go.

[A bit paranoid. Later @ home I used iCloud login to Wipe it.]
