Hi,

MacBook pro 16" model?

Is the blurry screen on the MacBook pro or an externally connected monitor (make, model and connection method?)

Blurry displays on a 16-inch MacBook Pro are typically caused by incorrect display scaling, sub-pixel rendering misalignment, or hardware failures such as a loose display flex cable or damaged LCD panel.

To diagnose and resolve the issue:

  • Check Display Scaling: Go to System Settings > Displays and ensure the resolution is set to "Default for display" or the highest "More Space" option.
  •  Non-native scaling often results in pixelated or fuzzy text.
  • Reset Sub-pixel Rendering: If the blur started after a sleep/wake cycle, close the lid for 30 seconds and reopen it to realign the sub-pixel rendering.
  • Isolate Hardware vs. Software: Connect an external monitor. If the external display is sharp but the internal screen remains blurry, the issue is likely a damaged internal LCD or a partially seated flex ribbon cable (common after physical impact).
  •  If both displays are blurry, the cause is likely a software or GPU driver bug.
  • Software Troubleshooting: Boot into Safe Mode (hold power button for 10s, then hold Shift while selecting the startup disk) to rule out third-party software conflicts.
  •  You can also try resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) by shutting down the Mac, holding Control + Option + Shift (left side) + Power for 10 seconds, then releasing and powering on.
  • Advanced Fixes: In rare cases, persistent blur on Apple Silicon Macs may require putting the device into DFU mode using a second Mac and Apple Configurator to reinstall the OS firmware.

If the blur persists only on the internal screen despite these steps, the LCD panel or flex cable likely needs professional replacement.
