How to check an iPhone's manufacturing date

On iPhone 15's and newer, you can go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health. There it will display the manufacturing month of your iPhone, and that's the closest you'll get. It would likely get too logistical if Apple tried to display the exact date. On older iPhones, this data isn't viewable. However, from what I have observed, they typically are manufactured 1-2 months before sale if from an Apple retailer if the model is still in production.

If you have a Mac, the Coconut Battery App for Mac shows the device's manufacture date:

and works on older devices as well. Our iPad 2 from 2012 still show battery info in this app.

As for the relation of manufacture date to selling date, We bought our iPhones directly from our carrier in early Nov 2021.

The manufactured date (month/year) is actually for the battery and not the iPhone. The iPhone manufactured date is usually one to two months after the battery date, but before the first use date. My iPhone 17 battery was manufactured July 2025 and first use was September 2025.

Apple tries to maintain FIFO in inventory. I can’t same the same of third party vendors. Ive seen manufactured dates 8 to 10 months before first use date.

This is what I see on my iPhone 17. It clearly reads "On iPhone 15 models or later, you can also see details like battery health, cycle count, manufacture date, and first use date."

Interesting, thanks for the info. Mine is a November 2024 manufacturing date and a December 2024 first use.

That fits the norm. Apple tries to get ahead of the demand curve when new model iPhones release in September. If Apple isn’t already into full production they will be soon for the upcoming new models. Supply chain restraints are presenting unique challenges this cycle. I’m sure Mr. Cook (master of supply chain logistics) has worked some magic.

The bottom screenshot indicates the battery manufacturer too. That time of year production is really kicking into high gear. There’s only a 3 week difference between battery manufacturer date and iPhone date.

Yes, other Apple devices we own definitely have shown more of a date "gap."

Since posting that, while backing up my A16 iPad, I noticed CB may not report the device manufacture date of Apple refurbs:

This is a real, direct-from-Apple's online store refurb I ordered on April 7, complete with the proper "F" designator in the model number.

However, the battery's date is not affected:

I'm seeing a lot of newer battery supplier names. For years I only saw DynaPak and SMB. My M4 Pro Macbook Pro shows the same battery maker as my iPhone SE.

Refurbished items get flashed with Apple’s designation for refurbished items. The batteries cannot be flashed, and there’s probably no need to.
