How to delete an accidentally inserted table in Numbers?

I have a Microsoft spreadsheet, which now only opens in Numbers. (I also have trouble hitting the right key sometimes). I have accidentally inserted a table into my spreadsheet. How do I delete it? I have tried File, Edit, Insert, etc. Nothing works

My Mac is a 2014 Air, running OS 11.7.10. (BigSur)

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 11.7

Numbers' table-based approach is a little different from Excel's sheet based approach, so it's easy to understand how you got here... not so obvious as to how to fix it :)

The trick lies in selecting the entire table, not just a cell in it. That's easiest done by clicking the 'target' icon that appears in the upper-left corner of the table:

You can either Ctrl-click on this and choose 'cut' from the pop-up menu, or just hit the delete key on your keyboard once the table is selected.
