macOS Tahoe Finder column view auto-pan issue

In macOS Tahoe 26.5.1: Finder window in column view with selected folder... window fails to automatically pan to the right to show its content. I always need to scroll to the right first.

This happens in regular Finder view as well as in save/export dialog windows in any app. For instance, I quick select a previously used folder from the top drop-down menu and it selects the folder but the column view stays to the left not shifting over to actually show the content of the folder, which is annoying to first have to scroll right to make sure I selected the correct folder or to see the content to make sure this is where I want to save my file.

This was working correctly in Sequoia and previous versions. I just upgraded to Tahoe.

This is a known issue that has been reported in multiple threads. Whether it's a bug or a 'feature', only Apple can correct it. Fixes are prioritized based on frequency of feedback requests, so definitely let Apple know. Bugs can be reported to Apple here:

In the meantime, using List view is a workaround (though not optimal for fans of Column view). View menu > As List or in a dialog box:

Thanks for confirming this is a bug. Google already stated this might be a bug wanting me to delete prefs etc that "might" resolve the issue but I was hoping there was simple solution for this still with Tahoe already being on version 26.5.1 – so sad sometimes that things like this simply linger around forever. I will now definitely report it to Apple...

And yes, List view is not an option for me – long-time column view fan for efficiency in my workflow and creature of habit in a way!

Thanks again!

Not in my case. I'm still experiencing the exact same issue in macOS 27 where Finder column view defaults to the root folder instead of opening at the target directory. I did a standard upgrade over Tahoe rather than a clean install. Is anyone else seeing this?

To make matters worse, macOS 27 seems to have introduced a bug with my Logitech MX Master 4 mouse. The smooth scrolling feature in Logi Options+ stopped working properly, which completely broke horizontal scrolling for me :-))) Disabling smooth scrolling for now worked as a temporary fix until an update comes out.
