Intermittent touchpad double-click for single click

Having to double click my touchpad to register a single click.

This is an intermittent issue and doesn't happen all the time. Doesn't matter the application...can be Apple's Safari or third party where when I go to click say "continue", my computer isn't registering the first click and requires me to double click. This will last for a few minutes to a day and then it works again. All my settings are in place so that it doesn't do that. Is this a known issue?

Hey thanks for the reply and thanks for letting me know that I definitely did not provide as much device info as I could.

I'm running a 14" MacBook Pro M2 running Tahoe 26.5.2

I have run the steps you posted and still no luck. It is truly intermittent where it could be an all day type thing where I have to double tap on a link to make it work or to open a tab. Then out of nowhere it works just fine. I haven't changed my workflow or how I do things. I run stock apple apps on my computer so I know it's not a 3rd party issue or something like that.
