How to resolve 'A valid App Store purchase couldn't be found' error for Apple Motion?

I tried opening Motion and I get A valid App Store purchase couldn’t be found.

I go to the App Store go to purchases click on motion and it downloads "Motion: Animated Effects" and then wants to charge me a subscription fee. I purchased Motion for $50. how can they do this? Is there a work around?

There are two separate versions of Motion. One has the traditional icon, the other has a new one (purple maybe, I am not at my mac to confirm). You need the one with the traditional icon.

The two are apparently called “Motion” but in fact the subscription version is “Motion Creator Studio” (or something like that; again I can’t check atm).

AFAICT the only ways to distinguish them are the icon, or by dragging the application onto a Terminal window (Terminal is not privy to the “hide part of the name” trick). By the way what I said about Motion is true for other applications in the Apple Creator Studio bundle.

Yes I do see Motion among my purchases in the App Store.
Also, I tried getting creator studio, but I have to have a silicone Mac to download.
I'm still on intel, MacOS 15.7.7

Forget about the creator studio, since your mac can't use that, anyway.

Do you have any version of Motion in your Mac? Which one?

In your account at the App Store, where have just confirmed that you can see Motion, does it say "Open" or does it show a download icon (a cloud with an arrow)?

If it says "Open" it means it sees some version of Motion in your Mac.

If you do, which version is it?

If you do have it, drag the application to the trash (but don't empty the trash just yet), then go back to your account at the App Store. Do you now see the download icon next to Motion? Can you download it?

So you see Motion (the old one) amongst your purchases, but then when you try to

download you get that error?

Something is amiss. If it appears amongst your purchases it means you ... purchased it!

You may need to contact App Store support about it.

What is your OS version, and Motion version?

Regarding the other apps: I have downloaded the new Pages, Keynote and Numbers (because they are free and can be used without the subscription) and I have both the old and new versions of each, side by side in the Applications folder. They all work (I am running Tahoe 26.5).

I have just tried the OLD one. It said that this version is outdated, and asked me if I wanted to start the new one instead. It gave me the option to open the old one, anyway. So I don't think that should be a problem.

You can use either one.

The Motion issue is just weird.

Here is a screenshot from the App Store application, showing the "old" purchased Motion (as well as Compressor and Final Cut Pro):

Here is the icon for the "new" Motion, together with all the other "Creator Studio" apps:

They are pretty easy to distinguish, since the icons are totally different.

I am not subscribed, because I have paid already for FCP, Motion, Compressor and Pixelmator Pro; but I do have

the free apps included in Creator Studio.

Here you can see both the "old" and "new" Keynote in the same location.

A little correction: you can actually see that the "new" Keynote is actually called "Keynote Creator Studio" without resorting to Terminal - just use the Info window in Finder (I thought I had tried this before and it didn't work, but I was wrong):
