How to fix 'Guided access unavailable' in iOS 26 on iPhone and iPad?

Bug: “Guided access unavailable.”

This bug started happening in the past few months, possibly when iOS 26 released.

This bug happens when you enter guided access in an app then triple tap to exit guided access, then try to enter guided access again and it doesn't let you, it says “Guided access unavailable.” It works the first time then when you try to enter guided access again it doesn’t work.

This issue is currently happening on both iphone and ipad.

The bug corrects itself after waiting a few minutes and you are able to enter guided access in the app once again.

The problem is I don't want to wait a few minutes each time to enter and exit guided access. Apple please fix this bug and if anyone knows a temporary solution please let me know.

Thank you so much! Yes, disabling the face id and just using a normal password fixes it

I just tested Guided Access on my iPhone (iOS 26.5) and I'm having no issues entering Guided Access right after ending it or resuming it. (I had set a passcode but not Face ID.)

If you used Face ID in the Guide Access settings, try not to use it to test.

Are you using the latest version of iOS? If not, try to update your iPhone.

Otherwise, you may want to reboot your iPhone or even force restart it (Force restart iPhone - Apple Support).

Yep, I was also having this issue. After changing a movie on YouTube for my daughter to watch. Unlocked guided access, changed the video and then attempted to put phone back into guided access only to be met with “guided access is currently unavailable”.

can confirm that if you wait about 3-5 minutes and try again, it usually works again.

annoying bug, apple please fix 🙏

Everyone on this thread, this bug that Apple refuses to address is just another example of how iOS 26 broke the iPhone.
