Text notifications stop working when Bluetooth is on on my iPhone

iPhone 15 Pro Max. Bluetooth on but not connected to any devices. No text notifications. No on screen notifications, no audible notifications. I have seen this or similar issues posted since 2023-ish I can't believe this hasn't been fixed (or more-so) that it's back - I've got latest iOS updates, have rebooted phone, checked all settings, volume, ringtone/notification tone, yada yada yada. As soon as I turn off bluetooth - notifications work. I just don't get that nobody at apple does any testing of critical features like notifications before releasing to the public?! Or is this a "Feature" that isn't documented and that I never asked for?

One additional possibility: Do you wear an Apple Watch? If it is on your wrist and Wrist Detection is enabled then text notifications will go only to the watch, and not alert on your iPhone unless the iPhone is unlocked. Turning off Bluetooth (and thus disconnecting your watch) will allow text notifications to revert to your iPhone.

You're having a rather unusual issue. I have Bluetooth on, on every iPhone, iPad and MacBook device I own and without a Bluetooth device actively connected, notifications are not affected in any way. This is not a common issue. Something else must be at play here. When you open Settings > Bluetooth - is there any device showing connected? For example, do you by chance wear Apple Watch?

What you're seeing is not normal, nor an undocumented feature in any way.

Latest version of iOS 26.5. I want to say this started since last update but not for sure. I used to get notifications while connected to car while driving but not anymore. Also when connected to a bluetooth speaker in the house. Nothing is active/connected. No watch. Airpods are in the car or elsewhere so not listed at all (weird to me). The weird thing is with screen off or on nothing for text notifications. But i did notice that if i text from another iPhone to my iPhone it DOES chime - so maybe it’s related to RCS? So basically green bubbles are silent. The texts that don’t work are from bank, etc for 2fa codes. No i don’t have call blocking/filtering enabled.

After systematically disabling all texting protocol "features" and forgetting all BT devices - no change. I finally put the phone in airplane mode for a minute, turned it back off and enabled bluetooth. Seems like it *may* be working but not confident. Will have to re-pair to car and AirPods to be sure. I had read someone else having similar on a different model phone (that's how I knew to turn off BT to get it to work) - pretty lame for a $1100 phone. My last good phone (iPhone 8) is sorely missed.

Confirmed every possible setting related to "muting" things. There are no settings enabled that would block/mute/hide any notifications. The last thing I tried DID NOT work - it appears that once the phone connects to a BT device and is ungracefully disconnected (ex: turn off car) it somehow borks iOS.

I do not get any notifications whatsoever if BT is enabled after disconnecting from my car (for example). I have a daily calendar reminder for medication and even THAT does not work.

The very disturbing thing is that NOTHING happens, no onscreen, no nothing - it acts as if no event occurred (no matter the event). The only thing that seems to work is iPhone to iPhone texting (blue bubbles) and incoming calls. NOTHING ELSE. As soon as I turn off BT - all is good. I will wipe it and see if that helps. Can't believe this bug exists and I am definitely not the only person who experiences it. A device that can't do its most basic of tasks is just a paperweight. Apple has declined in quality over the years - last good phone was my iPhone 8. Sad.

And realistically, with 1.5 billion unique Apple devices active that is certainly not a widespread issue. Granted they are not all iPhones, but you can bet a large percentage of them are and they have Bluetooth turned on. If all those users were seeing the same thing, not only would these Support Pages be blowing up, but you would also see it reported on every news outlet.

I agree, you have a very unique problem that is localized to your device. Along with what lobsterghost1 said, what iOS version are you using?

I do see you said you don't have any call blocking/filtering enabled, but let's check one often overlooked method that is supplied by your Cell Provider and specifically affects SMS and RCS messages not providing Notifications.

Go to Settings > Apps > Messages > Text Message Filter, and make sure that is set to None. If you have any filter there, it is supplied by your cell provider and only pertains to the SMS/RCS messages that they send you. While you are there, it is good to check the Allow Notifications section by going back to the previous page. Of course Time Sensitive would have to be turned on, but you may want to turn on the others to test just in case the message was incorrectly categorized.

Edited - Sorry posted after seeing your latest reply toggling Bluetooth.

I had asked this question earlier and he replied he does not wear Apple Watch.
