MS teams / FaceTime reassigning default handler outside user permission violates terms and conditions!

I am requesting escalation and engineering review for a persistent iOS issue that directly conflicts with Apple’s published platform rules and App Store Review Guidelines. On my personal iPhone, FaceTime continues attempting to open in Microsoft Teams instead of launching FaceTime natively. This is a known issue affecting many users across multiple iOS versions, and it compromises core system behavior.

This is my personal device. It is not enrolled in MDM, not managed by any employer, and contains no corporate configuration profiles. I have only one Teams app installed. Despite resets, reinstalls, and all recommended troubleshooting steps, the override repeatedly returns. This indicates an OS‑level failure to enforce Apple’s own compliance standards.

The core issue is this:

iOS is allowing a third‑party application to assign itself as a default system handler without explicit user consent. This behavior violates Apple’s own guidelines regarding system integrity, user control, and modification of core functionality.

Specifically:

• App Store Review Guideline 2.5.1 states that apps must not “interfere with system functionalities” or “alter the behavior of other apps without permission.”

• Guideline 5.1.1 (Data Collection and Consent) requires explicit user consent for any behavior that affects system‑level functions or user expectations.

• Apple’s Platform Security documentation states that system defaults and communication handlers must remain under user control and cannot be modified without clear authorization.

Yet in this case, iOS is permitting Microsoft Teams to override FaceTime’s default handler without any prompt, confirmation, or approval from me. This is not aligned with Apple’s stated security, privacy, or platform integrity standards.

Both Apple and Microsoft are foundational in the corporate world. Users rely on both ecosystems professionally and personally. When interoperability breaks at the OS level, it forces users into a position where essential Apple features are degraded by third‑party behavior the OS should be preventing. This is not a compliant or sustainable user experience.

I am requesting acknowledgment of this as a known issue, confirmation that this behavior is not intended under Apple’s platform policies, and escalation to the appropriate engineering teams for a permanent fix. Users should not be required to repeatedly reset their devices or perform workarounds to restore the default behavior of Apple’s own communication tools.

Thank you,

iPhone 16 Pro Max, iOS 26
