Invalid address in Apple Pay

I’m trying to make a purchase and this is coming up. My address IS correct, it’s just telling me it’s invalid. I did all the steps to make the corrections in Settings and it’s STILL telling me I have an Invalid Address. What now? Thank you for your help!

iPhone 14, iOS 26

Who is it’s? Apple Pay may share the address you have as the default address at this path,

iPhone > Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay > Apple Pay Defaults > Shipping Address >????

Generally your Wallet shares the address associated with your payment method. Click on the card and the billing addresses you’ve entered are shown.

The merchant sometimes confirms addresses with the bank. If they don’t match what the bank has on record, the merchant will decline. Also if you have an account or prior purchases with the merchant, they may cross reference card information with their account records. Again a mismatch will decline the transaction.

During the checkout process does the Apple Pay page offer a place to enter the shipping address or is the information prefilled and you have an option to edit the information?

Your iPhone may share with the merchant a limited set of your personal information, name, address, email and phone number. The information sent is contained at this path on your iPhone,

iPhone > Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay > Apple Pay Defaults

Only that limited set of personal information is shared and only if shipping is selected as delivery method. In store transactions shares only the name on the payment method.

The information contained on your iPhone and shared, may be used by the merchant to determine fraud risk. The information may be shared with your bank, third party verification services and internal merchant records.

You’ll need to contact the merchant to determine where the error is occurring. The merchant could be having POS or network issues. The merchant is your contact point for resolving the issue.

This is based on my own experience …

… when you select ApplePay (but before you double-click / authenticate) …

… you are provided the opportunity to change payment card and/or address.

At THIS point … open and double-check that that address as-shown matches your payment method; adjusting as necessary.

Once all is confirmed, double-click to authenticate and complete the transaction.

If you live in the U.S. try this. Go to the USPS website, select ‘Quick Tools’, select ZipCode. Fill in your address and zip code and see what the Post Office considers your official address to be. Now compare that to the address you use, to the letter. Use the Post Office address and try again. For example, if you list your address as North 1st St the USPS may show it as N 1st. Yes, that’s ridiculous but try it anyway.

This worked for me on a couple of occasions. Apparently some merchants validate addresses by checking the USPS database. I changed my address in my Apple Pay to match the USPS. Haven’t had an issue since.

One “example” I recall encountering a year or two ago.

For one particular merchant (a major national retailer although I don’t recall which one), I had to delete the “+4” digits from my zip code when making the ApplePay payment.

Once doing that that, it worked fine.

(All while my actual credit card billing address DID include the +4)

This was unique to this one merchant.

Again as Mr. Donald has suggested, this appears to be an issue at the “merchant end.”

Apple does not participate in any Apple Pay transactions unless Apple is the merchant.

When an Apple Pay transaction is initiated online the merchant receives an encrypted payment token that contains the address the bank has on file for you. The encrypted token is received by the merchant’s POS system and may be cross referenced with third party verification services, the bank or merchant records. If their anti fraud algorithm detects anomalies with the information an error may result. Apple never receives any information about your Apple Pay transactions.

Are you sure you’re using Apple Pay? Some browsers have the ability to autofill payment information. This includes Safari and Google Chrome. Are you sure you’re using Apple Pay and not autofill?

If that’s all the support the merchant will offer. I’d choose a different merchant.

The last thing I can recommend doing is removing the payment method from Apple Wallet, restarting your iPhone, adding the payment method back to your Wallet app.

This forces the bank to refresh the encrypted token they originally sent to your Wallet app. There is a slight risk the card will not be added back to the Wallet app if there’s been any reported fraudulent activity on any of your accounts.
