Hi,

Upgrading to iOS 26 (specifically versions like 26.2, 26.3, and 26.5) has disrupted AirPrint functionality on iPhone models, causing issues where the print option disappears entirely or the device fails to connect to the HP Envy 4520 despite the printer being visible.

This is often attributed to changes in how iOS 26 handles network permissions, Bonjour discovery, and certificate validation, which can cause the iPhone to drop the printer selection or hang on "gathering printer information."

To restore printing from your iPhone to the HP Envy 4520 after the iOS 26.5 update, follow these targeted steps:

  • Reset Network Settings: On your iPhone, go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This clears Wi-Fi caches and refreshes the Bonjour discovery protocol that AirPrint relies on. You will need to re-enter your Wi-Fi password.

  • Verify Network Configuration: Ensure your iPhone and HP Envy 4520 are connected to the same Wi-Fi SSID and subnet. iPhones often default to 5 GHz, which can sometimes block printer discovery; ensure both devices are on the same band (preferably 2.4 GHz for older printers like the Envy 4520) and not on a guest network.

  • Check Printer IP Address: Access your router’s admin page or the printer’s embedded web server (EWS) to confirm the HP Envy 4520 has a valid local IP address (starting with 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x) and not an APIPA address (169.x.x.x). If the IP is invalid, restart your router and printer to assign a new one.

  • Update Printer Firmware: Use the HP Smart app or the printer’s embedded web server to check for and install the latest firmware for the HP Envy 4520. iOS updates often require updated printer certificates to establish secure connections.

  • Reinstall HP App and Check Permissions: If AirPrint fails, uninstall and reinstall the HP Smart app. Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network and ensure the HP app is enabled. Also verify that Bluetooth and Location Services are set to "While Using the App."

  • Factory Reset Printer: If the above steps fail, perform a factory reset on the HP Envy 4520 to clear any corrupted network settings that may have been exacerbated by the iOS update.
  •  Re-add the printer to your network via the HP Smart app.

Some users report that VPN applications can interfere with printer discovery on iOS 26; consider uninstalling or disabling any VPN software to test connectivity.

If the print option is completely missing from apps, a force restart of the iPhone may help restore the print menu.

Not every issue an individual encounters on their device can be attributed to an iOS update. If the update itself were the root cause, then every device running that same version of iOS would exhibit the identical problem. In such a scenario, the forums would be flooded with countless posts reporting the same malfunction, creating an unmistakable wave of complaints that no one could possibly overlook. The absence of such widespread reports strongly indicates that the issue is not systemic, but rather specific to the device in question.
