Keep books on iPad in Books app for offline reading

I want to set the Books app to keep some books on my iPad instead of automatically storing them in icloud all the time. There are times when I am nowhere near a signal to connect to the internet and I cannot access my books. I need to keep them on the device. Is there a "keep book on device" option, because I cannot find it?
