MacBook Pro's battery is not charging and turning off frequently

My macbook keeps saying locking and then completely turning off or it just goes completely black to turn off anytime I do something. Everything also charges really slow and it took 12 hours before it even got to 57% and says “charging (plugged in) and then right under that it says “battery not charging”.

you do not say what exact mac is this 16" MBP....(?)

if this is Intel —Try resetting the System Management Controller Reset the SMC of your Mac - Apple Support

Reboot as normal and test. Caches get rebuilt automatically.

if this is M-series—Try a SafeBoot Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support to sort your anomalies.

Login and test. Reboot as normal and test. Caches get rebuilt automatically.

Sequoia — the current version is macOS 15.7.7

The rule of thumb—if you are near the mains leave it plugged in, if you need the portability then run on the battery only—this is how you help optimize your battery charging and extend the working life of your battery by reducing the cycle count.
