ITunes for newer OSX?

Can I still use iTunes? My iMac from 2015 has OSX Mojave installed. Yes, it is ancient. But it still allows me to use iTunes.

Upgrading to a newer OSX takes that away. It leaves me with 2 inferior apps that have much less functionality in TV and Music. The Music app is fine, but the TV app is very lacking when it comes to functionality.

I have many TV episodes stored in my iTunes library, and iTunes provides a column view of these which makes things easier to find. TV does not have column view.

Is there a way to upgrade mye OSX and still keep my iTunes? I notice iTunes is still available for Windows. Do I have to switch to the dark side?

You can continue to use iTunes on that Mac for as long as it lives with Mojave installed. Should you upgrade to Catalina, then no, you cannot continue to use iTunes.

No.

You don't have to switch. You don't have to give up that old Mac. If you get another Mac, keep this one around for this specific purpose. Folks do this sort of thing all the time.

An option might be to install the Mojave OS on an external drive and migrate your iTunes library to that. You could then upgrade the OS on the internal drive to something newer. Boot from the external drive when you need/want to use iTunes. Of course this comes with a big set of complications and potential issues.

Mojave is the last macOS operating system supporting iTunes. Afterward, Apple introduced Apple Music, Apple TV, and Apple Podcast applications. There is no guarantee that the iTunes on Windows won't change to suit Apple's change mantra. I would never switch operating systems over iTunes, and have continued using Apple Music without blinking…

See Apple TV App User Guide for Mac for how you may possibly gain access to those TV episodes once viewed in iTunes. Alternatively, you may be able to play them in VideoLan's VLC player.

Not on Catalina and later.

Apple kept iTunes for Windows around for a long time after they split up the functions of iTunes for Mac. But now, Apple is pushing Windows users towards newer applications:

Apparently Apple now believes that iTunes for Windows should only be used in niche cases:

"If you want to manage your podcasts and audiobooks on your PC, or your PC doesn't meet the system requirements for the Apple apps for Windows, you can use iTunes for Windows."

Remember how well "switching to the dark side" worked for Anakin Skywalker? You might switch to the dark side, then one day find out that you had given up macOS and still didn't have iTunes!
