HBO Max content not updating on continue watching

I noticed just yesterday that anything watched via HBO max was not updating on my continue watching list. What’s odd is that I can add shows and movies from that app onto the watchlist but nothing seems to update?

Another slight side note, some tiles on Apple TV have now gone blank and just showing a white tile as opposed to the show or movies thumbnail, wasn’t sure if this was related or not?

Both issues — the Continue Watching list not updating and the blank/white tiles — are related to the Max app's cache on Apple TV and are a known issue that others have reported. Here's how to fix them:

Step 1: Force quit and relaunch the Max app

1. Press the TV button on your Siri Remote to go to the Home Screen

2. Swipe up on the touchpad to force-close the Max app

3. Reopen Max and check if Continue Watching updated

Step 2: Clear the Max app cache (most effective fix)

1. Go to Settings > Apps on your Apple TV

2. Find Max in the list

3. Select "Clear Cache" if the option is available

Step 3: Delete and reinstall the Max app

1. On the Apple TV Home Screen, press and hold the Max app icon

2. Select Delete App

3. Go to the App Store, search for Max, and reinstall

4. Sign back in — this clears all cached data and usually fixes both the Continue Watching sync issue and blank thumbnails

Step 4: Restart your Apple TV

1. Go to Settings > System > Restart

The blank white tiles are almost certainly related to the same cache corruption that's preventing Continue Watching from syncing, so reinstalling the app should resolve both at once. If the issue persists after reinstalling, it may be a temporary server-side issue on Max's end, in which case waiting a few hours often resolves it.
