Yes, you can download a document from Google Sites to your iPad without opening the Google preview. You can accomplish this by long-pressing the download link on the page and then using the system Share sheet to send it directly to the Apple Books app.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Locate the Link: Open your Google Sites page in Safari on your iPad.
  2. Download Without Previewing:
    • Instead of tapping the file or download button (which triggers Google's preview), press and hold (long-press) the download button or link.
    • A menu will pop up. Tap Download Linked File.
    • Note: Your iPad will download the file quietly in the background. You can check the progress using the small down-arrow icon in the top right corner of the Safari address bar.
  1. Open in Books:
    • Tap the down-arrow icon in Safari and select your downloaded document.
    • Tap the Share icon (the square with an upward-pointing arrow).
    • Scroll through your app options and select Copy to Books (or Books). If you don't see it, swipe to the end of the app list and tap More to enable it.

Alternatively, you can skip Safari altogether if the document is yours. You can download the file directly from the Google Drive app by tapping the More icon (...) next to the file and selecting Open in > Copy to Books.
