No it is not an "error". The phone was refurbished by an unauthorized party as noted above. There is. no way to 'correct' the date in Apple's records and there is no point in doing so.

Not only is it not covered under the warranty, it's most likely untouchable by Apple as it's undoubtedly been tampered with.

If you're unhappy about that, return it and get your money back.

You purchased a used or refurbished phone that was reworked by a non-authorized Apple shop. Whether or not the phone was reworked using non-genuine parts is an open question.

The phone has no Apple warranty, so you will be on the hook for any service that may be required.

Best to return the phone to the seller for a refund.

The Author of this thread purchased an iPhone 15 Pro Max, which is second hand. iPhone 15 Pro Max was discontinued in September 2024, which is now nearly 2 years ago. Even if the purchase date was correct, it is out of warranty, so I can't imagine there would be any value in attempting to get Apple to correct the date. It's pretty clear they purchased a used, but refurbished phone. It has no warranty with Apple at all.

This is NOT universally true. It seems to be the case in India and a few other countries, but it is not necessary in most countries.
