Can't enable location sharing for child's iPhone 13

I am new to iPhone and me and my daughter now both have refurbished iPhone 13s.

I have invited my 16-year-old into my family group and I am sharing my location to my child. But we haven’t been able to enable share location on my child’s device.

When we try to enable it from the family settings for indefinite time from child’s device, we get a notification that it is “unable to enable it at the moment, please try again later” (translated). I tried removing her account from my family group and then invited again, but no change. What might be the problem?

Hi,

Screen Time restrictions are the most common reason location sharing fails or appears grayed out on your daughters iPhone.

To fix this, you must adjust settings on both the parent's device and your daughters iPhone 13.

Parent Device Settings:

On your iPhone, ensure you are allowing your daughter to share their location:

  1. Go to Settings > [Your Name] > Family.
  2. Select your daughters name.
  3. Tap Screen Time and ensure Content & Privacy Restrictions is turned On.
  4. Tap Share My Location and set it to Allow.

Daughters iPhone 13 Settings:

You must physically access your daughters device to configure the following:

  1. Enable Location Services: Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services and ensure the toggle is On.
  2. Enable Find My: Go to Settings > [Daughters Name] > Find My and turn on Find My iPhone and Share My Location.
  3. Remove Restrictions: Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Privacy > Location Services.
  4. Ensure this is set to Allow Changes if you want your daughter to have control, or Don't Allow Changes if you want to lock it permanently.

Critical Checks:

If the toggle remains grayed out or settings do not save:

  1. Accept New Terms: Children may be blocked by pending Apple ID updates. Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Accounts (set to Allow), then tap the child's name at the top of Settings to accept any pending iCloud Terms & Conditions.
  2. Family Sharing Status: Ensure the child is properly added to your Family Sharing group and that you are the Organizer.
  3. Restart Device: After applying changes, restart the child's iPhone to sync the settings with Apple's servers.
