Siri not asking to reply to texts in CarPlay

Siri is no longer asking me if I wish to reply to incoming text messages in CarPlay. I am using an iPhone 17 on iOS 26.5.1. Siri used to automatically ask me after reading a text message if I wanted to reply, but now it only asks if I go to the Messages app in CarPlay and click on the incoming text message, which defeats the purpose of using Siri, since it’s supposed to be hands-free. Did something change? Was this feature removed? Is this unique to my vehicle? I am connecting to a 2024 Honda CRV. This feature was working fine until recently.

Siri doesn't ask me if I want to reply to a text message after reading it. I don't recall if Siri did in the past? But I just say, "Siri, Respond to Message" and Siri asks what I want to say. You don't have to tap anything to do this.

It definitely used to prompt with the option to reply to the message automatically using Siri, but it seems to have stopped with a recent update.

Then just do what I do and ask Siri to respond to the message. Perhaps this was changed with recent updates. But if you open Apple Intelligence & Siri > Announce Notifications > Messages > Announce Messages - it says Siri will listen for responses after reading notifications. I believe this means that Siri will be waiting for you to say you want to respond.

This is fine as a workaround, but if Apple removed this feature intentionally then they should announce that and explain why, as opposed to silently removing features people rely on. If they removed it unintentionally then they should work to fix that. We should not be encouraging complacency in the face of poor software development practices.

Apple makes changes all the time. They own the operating system and they don't always announce every single change they make. I chalk it up to an oh well, this is how I do this now and move on with my day. There are simply too many other things in life I find more pressing.

But if you want to tell Apple how you feel about this, feel free to tell them directly (this is a user to user only forum) through this link --> Feedback - iPhone - Apple

I agree. This new behaviour of not asking you if you want to reply is both annoying and an unnecessary and DANGEROUS distraction from driving. It should be restored to how it behaved before which was much better. I actually think it’s a problem. My Siri on CarPlay is also seeming to have trouble when I tell it to send a message to Mike saying “insert message text here”. Siri just responds with “there was a problem”. But if I say “send a message to Mike “ and wait for Siri to ask “what do you want to say” and I tell Siri what I want to say, it then works.

Saying what you think it should do or what you want it to do won't get you anything here. This is a user to user only forum. You can share feedback with Apple here --> Feedback - iPhone - Apple
