Apple Display Pro Calibrator is failing every time with the Calibrate Display Plus HL colorimeter in Tahoe 26.5.1

The Apple Display Pro Calibrator is failing every time (and frequently crashes) when using the Calibrate Display Plus HL colorimeter in Tahoe 26.5.1 to do a full display calibration on either my MacBook M2 Pro or the Apple Studio XDR display.

The full calibration process fails after completing the 30-40 minute screen warm-up and after measuring a number of color swatches. It is possible to retry the calibration 3-4 times from the failed calibration screen (the retries take several hours). But on the 4th or 5th attempt the application crashes with a completely black screen and no ability to interact with the Mac other than toggling to the OS login page or holding down the power button to initiate a forced restart.

I followed all of the steps outlined in this support article Use Full Calibration in the Pro Display Calibrator - Apple Support

Is anyone else facing this issue?

It is very frustrating, having just purchased the Calibrate Display Plus HL specifically for this purpose, and in response to the recent announcement that it is the first consumer colorimeter officially approved by Apple for hardware-level calibration.
