Unable to rejoin Family Sharing after being removed

i was accidentally removed from my family plan, and am now unable to rejoin it when the invitation is sent. (com.apple.family.error.error-1005.)

It also says I’m still in the family on my phone but doesn’t on my mothers phone, how do I rejoin it?

Hi,

The Error -1005 in Apple Family Sharing is typically caused by unagreed iCloud terms and conditions, conflicts with a previous family group, or disabled shared features.

Primary Causes and Solutions:

  • Unagreed Terms and Conditions: The most common cause is that the device trying to join has not accepted the latest iCloud terms. Solution: Log into account.apple.com via a web browser using the joining member's credentials to accept the terms, then retry the invitation on the device.
  • Alternatively, check Settings > [Name] > iCloud to ensure all terms are accepted.
  • Existing Family Group Conflict: The user may still be linked to a previous Family Sharing group, even if it appears inactive. Solution: Verify the user has left any prior family groups. If they cannot remove themselves via settings, log into account.apple.com and use the family sharing tab to disconnect shared items or leave the group.

Note that you can only switch family accounts once per year.

  • Media & Purchases Sync Issues: Discrepancies in the Apple ID connection can trigger the error. Solution: Sign out of and back into Media & Purchases (Settings > [Name] > Media & Purchases > View Account) or sign out of the entire Apple ID and sign back in to refresh the connection.
  • Disabled Features: Ensure Family Sharing and specific shared features (like Screen Time or Location) are enabled in Settings > [Name] > Family Sharing.

Additional Troubleshooting:

  • Network Issues: Try accepting the invitation on a different network (cellular vs. Wi-Fi) or reset network settings (Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings).
  • Update Software: Ensure both devices are running the latest version of iOS or macOS to rule out software bugs.
  • Remove and Re-add: If possible, remove the member from the family group completely and send a fresh invitation.

If these steps fail, the error may indicate a server-side technical issue requiring assistance from Apple Support.
