Can anyone explain this?

Now on new Mac, Apple wants to charge me monthly fees, with each monthly fee costing almost as much $$ as the original cost. of $30.

You can continue to use your paid version of Pixelmator Pro without needing any subscription. The app is still available for purchase in the App Store and will continue to receive updates and is still supported. The Creator Suite you are referring to offers 1 subscription price for access and features to multiple apps and the only way to get Pixelmator Pro without a choosing the single purchase price option.

More information about what is included with the Creator Suite subscription is here. You don't need it at all and I suspect you wouldn't need it, since you already have Pixelmator Pro. For those looking to use Logic Pro, Final Cut Pro and Pixelmator Pro without having to purchase each app separately, and take advantage of advanced features in Keynote, Pages, Numbers, and Freeform it may make sense, but that is about it.

As for updates, yes you should have continued to receive updates as there have been 17 in the last year according to the App Store. The current version number is 3.8 from 2 months ago and since the purchase of the app in November 2024 there has been even more then 17 updates with bug fixes and additional features.

This link should get you to the stand-apart app in the App Store:

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/pixelmator-pro/id1289583905?mt=12

If so, you should be able to download the app again and continue to use it without the subscription nag.

You'll want to be signed into the App Store using the same Apple Account/ID credentials that you originally used to buy the app.

You may wish to zip and archive your current version of the app before downloading the newest.
