Hi,
This issue typically occurs because iCloud intercepts invitations sent from Apple devices and routes them to the iCloud calendar rather than your email-based default calendar, or because the default calendar setting on your specific device is not configured correctly.
To resolve this, you must adjust settings on both iCloud.com and your iOS/macOS devices:
- Change iCloud Web Settings: Log into iCloud.com, open the Calendar app, click the Actions (gear) icon, select Settings, go to the Account tab, and under Invitations, select Email To instead of In-app Notifications. This forces iCloud to send invites to your email inbox, allowing your default calendar settings to process them correctly.
- Verify Device Default: On your iPhone or iPad: go to Settings > Calendar > Default Calendar and ensure it is set to the specific calendar you want (e.g., your Google or Outlook calendar, not iCloud).
- Verify Device Default: On your Mac: open Calendar > Settings (or Preferences) > General and change the Default calendar for new events.
- Check Account Sync: Ensure your non-iCloud calendar accounts (like Gmail or Outlook) have Calendars enabled in Settings > Calendar > Accounts on iOS or Calendar > Settings > Accounts on Mac.
If invites still default to the wrong calendar, note that third-party sources (like TripIt or Exchange) "own" their events, meaning you cannot move them to a different calendar once received; they will remain on the source calendar.
