Logic Pro metronome not working after updating to 12.3

Hi everyone,

I'm facing an issue with the metronome in Logic Pro. Ever since updating to version 12.3, the click track has completely stopped working.

Here is what I've already checked:

  • The metronome icon in the control bar is enabled (lit up in purple).
  • In Project Settings > Metronome, both Click while playing and Click while recording are checked.
  • My audio output routing is correct, and I can hear all other audio and software instruments perfectly.

Despite this, there is absolutely no click sound during playback or recording. Does anyone else experience this since the 12.3 update, or have an idea how to fix it? Could there be a routing issue in the mixer with the Klopfgeist / Click instrument track?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Thanks for the reply! It's actually a relief to hear that a colleague and I aren't the only ones experiencing this exact metronome issue with older or existing projects.

I did find a workaround. It's a bit tedious, but it gets the job done: I basically recreated my template. I set up a brand-new Logic project and imported everything from my old template—all channel strips, busses, and window configurations. The import went smoothly, and the metronome works perfectly in the new project. I reckon this approach should work for existing songs as well.

It’s definitely annoying because we didn't do anything wrong, but until an update drops, this seems to be the only way to fix it. I’ve double-checked everything—the metronome isn't hidden, muted, or misconfigured. All settings are correct, it just refuses to work in older projects.

Regarding your other issue: I have two keyboards connected via USB (a Roland and a Studiologic). I didn't have to adjust any special settings—it's purely plug-and-play, and both work flawlessly without any latency whatsoever. Everything is running as smoothly as usual.

Thanks for the reply!

I tried your suggestion: In a brand new, fresh project, the metronome works perfectly fine. However, in my existing projects and custom templates, the click is dead.

When I switch the mixer to "All", I can see the Click track, but there is no meter activity at all during playback. It seems like the latest update broke the routing or the Klopfgeist instantiation in older projects/templates. Is there a way to reset or force-rebuild the click track in an existing project?

Hi,

I’m having exactly the same problem. Unfortunately, I don’t have a solution for you, but I wanted to let you know that you’re not the only one. But I have other issues as well. For example, I’m having trouble with latency when I record a MIDI track using a keyboard. When I select that channel, I don’t have a problem. But when I select a different channel, the track I recorded plays out of sync. Have you experienced this too?

I’ve been working with Logic for years and have never had anything like this happen before.

Best regards from Holland,

Henk
