Music not loading into Final Cut 12.3

My Music is not showing up in Final Cut 12.3 on MBPro M5. It previously showed up when I was using my 2018 Intel MBP. I did first start the Music app and then FCP but the music never populated. Some permission thing? How do I correct this? I own all the music in my library too.

So in solving this, I thought that going into system settings>Privacy and Security, and making sure that FCP had full disk access. I mistakenly thought that would include accessing my Music files too. But for that you have to do step 2: System Prefs>Privacy and Security and go to Music and make sure FCP is enabled in that. In my case it was not switched on. Hopefully this will save you 3 days of trying to figure out what the heck is going on. On me for not checking though.

Where is the Music library stored?

Not that it should make any difference, but you could try launching Music, and then Final Cut Pro (I'm grasping at straws here).

Oh... and did you install "cleanmymac", or any antivirus or any similar program? These can cause all sorts of problems.

If the issue persists: please run Etrecheck and post its full report here. Use the "additional text" button and paste the report into the text box.

We may find something odd in the report that may help us narrow down the issue.

Music is stored on my external hdd. I did try launching Music first and then fcp but no luck. No antivirus installed. I am not familiar with Etrecheck, or where that is located.
I have another hunch that I will check tommorow:
since this is a new mbp, when I first launched music by default it created a Music folder on my startup drive>user. But my music and all associated files, dbases et al are on the external hd. Starting music with modifier key directed music to the external hd. After I did that, Music opens as expected each time. I’ll have to check to see if the “empty” Music folder is still on start up and delete that if it is and see if that works.I’ll report tomorrow.

This looks like it may be it: FCP seeing an empty library.

Probably for historical reasons, Music is different from Photos in one aspect that I think is relevant to the present situation: in Photos, you can set "Use as System Photo Library" and all other applications "know" where to look (if they have permission). This works great with FCP: you can switch to a completely different Photos library, and as long it is set as the system photo library, FCP can find it.

Music can change the location of the library it's using, but AFAICT there is no "system" setting.

Hi Luis. Thanks again.

I went and checked my start up drive>user>Music and there are no files in there which is what I expected. As I mentioned, when I start Music, it opens with all my media correctly.

I went to my external hdd where my iTunes/Music folder is and found nothing out of the ordinary: no duplicate DB's and so on. I did find a folder called "previous Libraries" which I moved to trash, and then launched FCP and still the same empty Music folder with the ? mark as shown in the first screenshot.

Attached is a shot of my iTunes folder on the external HDD. One thing to note is my actual music files (hundreds of them) are all in the folder called "Music" not in the Media folder. I don't think this makes any difference since Music is finding them when I launch that, just not FCP.

At this point I may have to contact Apple. At this point the only thing I haven't tried is a clean install of FCP, but have a feeling that is not it.
