iMac Photos: Syncing issues, missing photos after Oct 2025

my iMac running Tahoe 26.5.2 won't show any photos after October 2025. I have more photos on my iPhone 16 pro that are not on the iMac. It seems like it has stopped syncing.

Hi,

Missing photos on an iMac after October 2025 are typically caused by iCloud sync interruptions, library corruption, or incorrect library selection. Common triggers include the "iCloud Photos" toggle being accidentally disabled, insufficient iCloud storage, or database corruption following a macOS update (such as Sequoia or Tahoe).

To resolve these issues, follow these steps:

  • Verify iCloud Settings: Open System Settings > Apple ID > iCloud > Photos and ensure iCloud Photos is enabled. If it is already on, toggle it off and back on to refresh the connection.
  • Check for Paused Syncs: Open the Photos app and look for status messages at the bottom of the window indicating uploads are paused or stalled.
  • Repair the Photo Library: Quit the Photos app, then hold Option + Command while reopening it. Select Repair from the dialog box to fix potential database corruption.
  • Confirm Correct Library: If multiple libraries exist, quit Photos, hold the Option key, and select the correct library file (usually in the Pictures folder).
  • Recover from iCloud: If local photos are missing, visit iCloud.com, log in with your Apple ID, and check if the photos are stored in the cloud. You can download them manually or re-enable iCloud Photos to trigger a re-download.
  • Restore from Backup: If the library is irreparably corrupted, restore the Photos Library.photoslibrary file from a Time Machine backup taken before the photos disappeared.

If photos remain missing after these steps, the issue may require data recovery software or assistance from Apple Supportto repair the photo library database.
