iPad cellular eSIM 'Edit Account' unresponsive

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping someone here has run into this issue before because I’m completely out of ideas.

My iPad (cellular model) had been working perfectly for a long time, and then this problem appeared completely out of nowhere. I didn’t make any unusual changes, and as far as I know nothing happened that should have caused it.

The device now behaves as if it has a corrupted or incomplete eSIM profile that I can’t access or remove.

Here’s what I’ve already tried:

  • Erased the iPad and set it up as a new device (no backup restored).
  • Reinstalled iPadOS multiple times.
  • Reset all network settings.
  • Used Reset Cellular Services.
  • Contacted Apple Support several times.
  • Ran Apple Diagnostics with support.
  • Followed every troubleshooting step they suggested.

Unfortunately, none of this helped.

One strange thing I noticed is that under Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPad, there is a Reset Cellular Services option. After entering my passcode, I’m shown a window with only two options:

  • Edit Account
  • Cancel

When I tap Edit Account, absolutely nothing happens. No error, no loading screen—nothing.

Apple Support told me that since they’ve exhausted all remote troubleshooting, the next step would be to visit an Apple Store or an Authorized Service Provider. Unfortunately, that’s not possible for me right now, so I’m hoping someone here might have another idea.

What’s even stranger is that I vaguely remember having almost exactly the same issue about a year ago, around the same time in the summer. I somehow managed to fix it back then, but I honestly have no memory of what I did.

The only evidence I have is an old conversation with my mobile carrier’s support where I wrote that the issue had been resolved—but, frustratingly, I never mentioned how I fixed it.

So now I’m back in exactly the same situation with no clue what solved it before.

Has anyone experienced anything similar?

  • Can the eSIM (eUICC) become corrupted?
  • Is there any way to completely reset or reinitialize the eSIM hardware?
  • Has anyone managed to recover from this without replacing the device or visiting a service center?
  • Are there any hidden diagnostics or advanced troubleshooting steps that Apple Support doesn’t normally suggest?

I’d really appreciate any ideas or similar experiences. Thanks in advance!

My carrier had two theories. The first was that there might be a hardware issue with the cellular modem. The second was that the device could somehow be carrier-locked.

However, Apple Support ran remote diagnostics and told me that everything looked normal and that they couldn’t find any hardware issues.

To rule out the carrier itself, I transferred the same eSIM to my iPhone, and it activated and worked immediately. So the eSIM and the carrier account are definitely fine.

I also have one theory of my own. My iPad has the ZP/A model suffix, which was originally intended for the Hong Kong/Macau market.   I don’t live there and I didn’t buy it there. If there were any regional or local restrictions, I would expect them to have been present from day one, but the iPad worked perfectly for years. The problem appeared suddenly, so I’m not convinced the regional model is actually the cause-it just seems like one possibility I’m trying to rule out.

That is incorrect.

Indeed there is a unique iPad Pro 13” M4 Wi-Fi cell model for China, but your A2926 Model Number means this is not your iPad.

Instead, the “ZP/A” denotes an iPad for the Singapore / Hong Kong region.

Thanks for the clarification! That definitely clears up my confusion about the model.

In that case, what do you think could actually be causing this? Also, is there any way to completely reset the cellular/eSIM settings beyond a DFU restore or a factory reset through Settings? I’m just wondering if there’s any lower-level reset that I haven’t tried yet.
