Are Microsoft Office features the same on Mac?

The short answer is that Microsoft Office on Mac is very close to the Windows version, but not 100% identical. For most everyday users, you won't notice any real differences with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint all handle documents interchangeably between platforms, and your files will function exactly the same

That said, there are a few Windows-only features that don't have Mac equivalents:

• Power Query and Power Pivot in Excel are limited on Mac
• Some advanced VBA macros may behave differently or not work at all
• Microsoft Access, Publisher, and Project aren't available on macOS
• Certain enterprise-focused Outlook features are more robust on Windows

For personal, academic, or general business use, you'll be perfectly fine with the Mac version. Microsoft has also been steadily bringing feature parity closer with each update, so the features missing above may be updated

These days, Microsoft calls their offerings "Microsoft 365" or "Microsoft Office" depending upon whether you are talking about a subscription (rental) plan, or a one-time purchase.

The one-time purchase versions don't get all of the features of the subscription ones. E.g., with Microsoft Office Home 2024, you can only install the program on a single PC or Mac. If you have both a desktop and a laptop and want to install it on both – tough.
