Migration Assistant for new MacBook Air files?

I have a 2015 MacBook running Monteray. Is it recommended to use Migration Assistant to transfer my files to a new MacBook Air (M5)

Hello Cheetaux, and welcome to the Apple Support Community.

Yes, Migration Assistant is Apple’s recommended method for transferring your data from an older Mac to a new MacBook Air. It can migrate your user account, documents, applications, settings, and many other files while preserving your existing environment.

Before starting, it’s a good idea to:

  • Make a complete backup of your 2015 MacBook (preferably with Time Machine).
  • Update both Macs to the latest compatible macOS version.
  • Connect both Macs to the same Wi-Fi network or, for faster and more reliable transfers, use a Thunderbolt or Ethernet connection if available.

If you prefer, you can also migrate from a Time Machine backup instead of directly from your old Mac.
