Hello,
I started a question earlier regarding freeing up disk space, but I have a very specific question about Library files. Using OminDisk, I have a Metadata folder with something called CoreSpotlight at 96.4 GB. How critical is this because I could really use that disk space?
This folder can safely be deleted. MacOS and Spotlight will recreate it, however, and it may eventually grow again to a large size, so deletion may only be a temporary reclamation of drive space.
Here are some things that you can do everyday to manage your free space:
• Reboot your Mac at least weekly. Let the OS do housekeeping and clear caches.
• Empty the Trash in the Dock.
• Empty the trash in the Photos app.
• Delete unused and unneeded application installers from your downloads folder and desktop. No need to store on your Mac what you can freely download again any time.
• Transfer files that you don’t use daily to an external drive and then delete them from the startup drive and empty the trash. Files that typically take up the most room are movies, images and music.
