Greyed out Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on an iPhone 13 Pro Max is a known hardware-related issue (often caused by a failed chip or logic board connection), but here are all the paths to help you erase it and remove Find My without needing Wi-Fi:

Option 1 — Erase directly on the iPhone (no internet needed):

- Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Erase All Content and Settings

- Enter your passcode when prompted

- This erases the device locally without needing Wi-Fi — Find My will be turned off during this process if you enter your Apple ID password

- Note: You will need your Apple ID credentials to complete the erase if Find My is on

Option 2 — Remove the device from iCloud remotely (using your new iPhone or any browser):

- On your new iPhone 17 Pro Max or any browser, go to icloud.com/find

- Sign in with the same Apple ID

- Tap "All Devices" > select the iPhone 13 Pro Max

- Tap "Erase iPhone" and then "Remove from Account"

- This remotely wipes and removes Find My from the device, even without the phone having Wi-Fi right now (it will execute the erase when the phone next connects to any network, including cellular)

Option 3 — If the phone has a cellular data connection:

- Even if Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are greyed out, the phone may still have cellular data

- The remote erase from iCloud.com will trigger over cellular

- You can also try: Settings > [Your Name] > Sign Out (while on cellular) to remove the Apple ID

Option 4 — Use Recovery Mode via Mac/PC:

- Connect iPhone to Mac (Finder) or PC (iTunes)

- Put it into Recovery Mode: quickly press Volume Up, Volume Down, then hold Side button until recovery screen appears

- Choose Restore in Finder/iTunes — this fully erases the device and removes Find My (you will need your Apple ID to complete activation lock removal)

The most efficient path is Option 2 — remotely erase and remove the device from iCloud.com using your new iPhone.

A loading screen during a factory reset is normal — it can take anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes depending on the amount of data. Here's what to do:

1. Leave it on the loading screen — Do not interrupt it. Keep it plugged into power and let it run. Unplugging or force-restarting mid-reset can cause bigger issues.

2. If it's been stuck for over 1 hour — Force restart: Press and quickly release Volume Up, press and quickly release Volume Down, then press and hold the Side button until the Apple logo appears. The reset should resume or the phone will reboot.

3. If it reboots but the greyed-out issue persists — Try putting it into Recovery Mode and restore via Finder (Mac) or iTunes (Windows):

- Connect to a computer

- Open Finder/iTunes

- Force restart while connected (same button combo above) but keep holding the Side button until you see the Recovery Mode screen

- Click Restore in Finder/iTunes

4. If none of these work — The device may need to be looked at by Apple Support or an Apple Authorized Service Provider in person. Visit: https://getsupport.apple.com

Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary software glitches. Turn off your iPhone, wait for a few seconds, and then turn it back on.

  1. Restart the device. That's it.
  2. Still not solved --> Force restart iPhone - Apple Support

Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings: Only network settings are removed.

  • When you reset network settings, previously used networks and VPN settings that weren’t installed by a configuration profile or mobile device management (MDM) are removed. Wi-Fi is turned off and then back on, disconnecting you from any network you’re on. The Wi-Fi and Ask to Join Networks settings remain turned on.
  • To remove VPN settings installed by a configuration profile, go to Settings > General > Profiles & Device Management, select the configuration profile, then tap Remove Profile. This also removes other settings and accounts provided by the profile. See Install or remove configuration profiles on iPhone in this guide.
  • To remove network settings installed by MDM, go to Settings > General > Profiles & Device Management, select the management, then tap Remove Management. This also removes other settings and certificates provided by MDM. See “Mobile device management (MDM)” in the iOS Deployment Reference.
  • Reset your Network Settings. Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings that you've used before.

If the above fails...

Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset All Settings: All settings—including network settings, the keyboard dictionary, the Home screen layout, location settings, privacy settings, and Apple Pay cards—are removed or reset to their defaults. No data or media are deleted.

  1. Reset All Settings: Return iPhone settings to their defaults - Apple Support:- Return iPhone settings to their defaults
  2. You can return settings to their defaults without erasing your content.
  3. If you want to save your settings, back up your iPhone before returning them to their defaults. For example, if you’re trying to solve a problem but returning settings to their defaults doesn’t help, you might want to restore your previous settings from a backup.

Make sure you have the latest updates installed.

  1. Update Over-the-Air (OTA) —> Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support (IN)
  2. Update using iTunes/Finder —> Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support (IN)

If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it is recommended to reach out to Apple Support or visit an authorized service center for further assistance. They can provide specific guidance based on your device model and iOS version.

If nothing above works probably it could be your iPhone may have a WiFi radio or antenna problem. In that case, take your device to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider, or contact Apple Support and get the hardware tested and if needed repaired/replaced.

How to factory reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

The phone will require you to enter both your device passcode and your Apple Account password. I would not be surprised if it tried to contact Apple's servers as part of removing itself from your Apple Account; Apple's servers keep track of information associated with Activation Lock.
