Problem deleting Effects applied to clips in FCP Timeline

I am starting to experience an issue where I want to delete an Effect from a particular clip. What is happening is instead of just the Effect being deleted the entire clip is deleted from the Timeline. Specifically I was trying to delete the Compressor effect from several different clips (one at a time.) But each time I highlighted the effect in the Inspector (yellow box around the effect) and pressed the Delete key, the clip would disappear from the Timeline. I do know I can just turn it off, but still …

Select the clip on the timeline, then go to the menu Edit > Remove Attributes (or type Shift + Command + X) and a dialog box will appear allowing you to choose what attributes (effect) you want to delete:



Make sure the effect(s) you want to remove are checked and the effects you want to preserve are unchecked - then press remove.
