macOS Books app: Blank Table of Contents, pagination issues

I have a number of Apple books that display both digital and print edition page numbers. I bought a book today on my Mac and it would not open ("missing required software") at first. I had this situation occur with the last book I purchased about two weeks ago. I shut down my Mac and checked the book on my iPad. It opened without a problem. I restarted my Mac and was able to open the book, but when I pulled down the Table of Contents, it was blank. On my iPad, the Table of Contents showed up and I had the option to choose between digital and print edition pagination. Now, none of the books on my Mac show a choice of pagination: books that had printed pages show only that pagination. (One can tell because changing the font size does not change the number of pages in the book.) Books that had only digital pagination remain as they were.

However, two of the last three books I purchased had print page numbers and those are the ones that now have blank Tables of Contents and digital pagination. This looks to me to be a bug in the MacOS Books app as the IOS/iPADOS apps work as before.
