iPhone 15 WhatsApp not sending messages after update

After updating my Whatsapp to the latest 26.26.73 version, it has suddenly stopped sending messages to any contact/group on my iPhone 15 running ios 18.7.8. Whenever I am trying to send a message to someone, a red exclamation mark appears beside the text and asks me to send the message again.

I have tried offloading the app, uninstalling and reinstalling the app and force restarting my phone, but to no luck. Whatsapp is receiving all messages and I am able to access it through the webapp.

Is this an issue with Whatsapp's update or do I need to update my phone to ios 26? I don't want to update my phone since I have been reading a lot of negative reviews about ios 26. I won't be able to purchase a new phone at the moment, so I can't risk compromising the phone's day-to-day functionalities.

Let me know what to do about this problem. Thank you.

People who don't like something are the ones who post their displeasure. People who are happy with something, rarely go on forums just to say "hey, I really like (insert whatever the topic is). I personally think iOS 26 is great. I love Liquid Glass, but I also understand many people simply can't or don't handle change well. But change is unavoidable in our electronic world. So instead of believing everything you read on forums or social media, I'd update your iPhone.

I say this because I'm on iOS 26.5.2, the most current iOS version and WhastApp is working fine on my phone. That said, Meta who is the owner of WhatsApp has some of the buggiest applications out there. WhatsApp, on average has to be updated multiple times each week, to fix something they broke in a previous update, only to break something in the newest update.

If you really are change averse, just wait it out as they will surely release an update any minute as they seem to have to do.

If you do decide to update your iPhone and at first you don't Liquid Glass (the thing most change averse folks seem to have an issue with), I wrote this user tip to help people --> Liquid Glass - Love It Or Hate It - It's … - Apple Community
