Apple Pencil 2 not connecting or charging

Hi everyone,

My Apple Pencil (2nd generation) suddenly stopped working today. It was working perfectly a few days ago and has always been attached to my iPad’s magnetic charging side. My iPad is an iPad Pro 12.9-inch M1, and the Apple Pencil 2 used to connect normally. Now, when I attach the Pencil, I only see “Apple Pencil” appear at the top of the screen for a second, then it disappears. The battery percentage does not show, and the pairing button never appears I already tried: Restarting my iPad, Removing the Pencil from Bluetooth and choosing “Forget This Device”, Turning Bluetooth off and on, and Testing the Pencil on two other compatible iPads (it also does not work there)

The Pencil still snaps magnetically onto the iPad, but it does not connect or show that it is charging. What’s the problem?

Your Apple Pencil is exhibiting symptoms of a failed battery - that will not reliably accept or hold any charge. Gentle warming of the Pencil (such as placing on a hot water radiator), prior to attempting charging of the Pencil, can sometimes resurrect a dead Pencil battery.

If the Pencil Battery has failed, the only remedy is to replace the Pencil. If the battery has failed and your pencil is within its one-year warranty, you should look to having it replaced by your retailer or at an Apple Store.

You would be best advised to visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to test and assess your iPad and Pencil. If a fault is identified, you’ll be in the best possible place to explore your available options:
