Unable to purchase using Apple Gift Card

The ability to complete an app purchase on the App Store requires a functioning payment method.

A payment method is often required to verify your identity, prevent fraud and ensure a streamlined process if you decide to make in-app purchases or purchase paid apps later.

It also helps companies manage age restrictions and regional content availability.

Check your payment method in Settings ➢ [your name] ➢ Payment & Shipping, ensure it’s valid and update if needed. Also, sign out and back into your Apple Account, then try again.

If it still fails, contact Apple Support directly.

There are many reasons why that could be the case:

• You may need to add a valid payment method on file, even if you have funds in your Apple Account.
• You Apple Account may be disabled for purchases
• You may have a previous transaction that has not been paid and you will not be able to continue to use the App Store until it has been resolved.
• You may have Screen Time restrictions preventing any purchase.
• If you cannot redeem the Gift Card to your account, that is a completely different matter and you will likely have a message there saying what the problem is.

Without telling us what happens when you attempt to make a purchase, all you will get are a series of guesses.

If there is anise redeeming the card, or it states it has already been redeemed, then you will need to contact Apple Support.
