Cannot use double tap on screen to type to Siri

There is no feature known to me that will activate Siri when double-tapped on the screen.

These re the ways:

After you turn on Siri, you need to activate it, then ask a question or make a request.

Note: You must be connected to the internet to use Siri.

1. Do one of the following:

• • With your voice: Say “Siri” or “Hey Siri.”
  • On an iPhone with Face ID: Press and hold the side button.
  • On an iPhone with a Home button: Press and hold the Home button.
  • With EarPods: Press and hold the center or call button.
  • With CarPlay: Press and hold the voice command button on the steering wheel, or touch and hold the Home button on the CarPlay Home Screen. See Use Siri in your car.
  • With Siri Eyes Free: Press and hold the voice command button on your steering wheel.

The double-tap at the bottom of the screen to type to Siri is controlled by the Type to Siri accessibility setting. On iOS 26 and iPhone 16, here is how to re-enable it:

1. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Siri and toggle on Type to Siri.

2. Once on, you can double-tap the bottom bar during a Siri session to type your request instead of speaking.

3. Also confirm Siri is active under Settings > Siri and that the side button or voice activation is configured.

If the gesture still does not respond after enabling the setting, do a full restart (hold Side + Volume Down, slide to power off). This usually restores gesture-based Siri input after an iOS 26 update.
