Stop grouping in Stage Manager
How can I pull a Chrome tab out and not automatically group in Stage Manager so that I can see both windows side by side? I want to have them side by side.

The whole point of Stage Manager is to manage your workspace by giving you one and only one window as the main focus, subordinating all the other open windows.
If you want two (or more) windows front-and-center, turn off Stage Manager, and arrange them manually or use the window tiling options in macOS.

Got it. Is there a way to have Command-Tab go from right to left?
Yes - press Command-Tab, then keep holding the Command key and press the `~ (just above Tab) instead. As long as you keep the Command key down, you can use Tab to move the selection to the right and `~ to move the selection to the left.
There are many ways to manage windows and apps. Personally, I use multiple Spaces with different apps on them, and use a three-finger swipe or the App Switcher (Command-Tab) to move between them.

What would you suggest for a stage manager like experience where you can still see the other active apps?

Incidentally, like Command-Tab cycles through apps, Command-`~ cycles through open windows within the active app.
Fascinating!
