Transfer data to another Mac

If you intend to transfer the data from an old Mac to a new one, the easiest and best way is to backup the old one to an external drive using Time Machine. Back up your Mac with Time Machine - Apple Support

When you unbox the new Mac and are getting ready to set it up, connect the external drive you used to backup the old Mac and then turn on the new Mac. Follow the prompts to set it up. Eventually the Setup Assistant will ask if you want to transfer data from another Mac, PC or storage device. At this point you will select the external drive and migrate the data from that. and along with the other two replies, you have the option to use AirDrop to transfer data wirelessly. as long as both Macs are on the same wifi network, and are relatively close to each other.

If you're setting up a new Mac, follow D.I. Johnson's instructions. But if you are just wanting to transfer files, then there are other options.

For instance, you can just use "Disk Target Mode" to mount one Mac's intenal drive as an external drive on another Mac.

You can also make a Network of Macs by connecting Thunderbolt ports in a "Thunderbolt Bridge:"
