iPhone constantly re-detecting charge after update

Update, the problem went away after the next iPhone update.

my personal opinion: saying a battery needs replacing when it says “80%” makes the “80% capacity” meaningless. If a battery needs replacing at 80% capacity then it really is 0%. Either Apple needs to change their reporting of battery capacity, if there is a real danger of a battery swelling or exploding, or …..

There has been a development and I’m not sure how to take it.

Just to be clear, here is the sequence of events that took place:

1. phone was charging fine for 2 months. I took it off the charger, was going through the settings and saw there was an update available. So I clicked on “update now” and set it back on the charger. It updated, rebooted, and then started the charge detect loop.
2. I tried disabling standby mode, didn’t help.
3. I then swapped chargers with my work phone (actually a client of mine that gave me a company phone to attend team meetings) and the work phone, iphone11, not updated, and the work phone didn’t detect loop.
4. I then swapped chargers and my personal phone detect looped.
5. I then updated the work phone and placed it on the charger once again and after the update, no looping.
6. At this point it was looking like my phone but why it only started after the update didn’t make sense to me. I thought maybe the older 11 charged at a lower rate being older and the 14 was stressing it more. I then contacted the seller asking about a possible replacement since it was still new charger and they asked what the time was between detects. I then put the 14 back on the charger, armed with a stop watch and waited. And waited. And waited.
7. it hasn’t done it since! After 2 weeks of constant cycling it has now decided to stop and hasn’t done it since. I’ve removed it from the charger and replaced it at least a dozen times now and it’s fine!

I have no idea what changed. I didn’t do anything but swap phones a couple of times.

I really hate problems like this as there is no cause determined. It’s like trying to solve an intermittent problem with a new design that only happens randomly.

anyway, thanks for your help again, my battery is actually just below 80% so it may be time to either have the battery replaced or buy a new phone. My work iPhone11 still has 91% battery health!

I guess chalk this one up to unsolved since I can no longer reproduce the problem. 🤷‍♂️

Plus my work phone is an iPhone 11 that hasn’t updated yet and it doesn’t do it on the same charger.

Yeah, wish I had that kind of money to throw around. Being 100% disabled recently has really put a wrench in the cash flow.
