Office 365 Product Key not recognized on MacBook Air

I bought a Microsoft Office 365 Personal subscription along with a new MacBook Air purchase, but I can't activate the Office subscription (it doesn't recognize the Product Key). I've spent hours trying to make it work, so I would appreciate any help with this.
