Hello,

I'm reporting a reproducible issue with my genuine Apple iPhone Air MagSafe Battery when used with my iPhone Air. The battery charges the phone normally, but its status is not recognized on this specific device. I've already done extensive troubleshooting and isolated the problem, so I've included everything below to save time.

SYMPTOM

When I attach the iPhone Air MagSafe Battery to my iPhone Air, the phone shows only that it is charging — but it does NOT display the battery's charge percentage in the Batteries widget, and the MagSafe attach animation does not appear. The accessory also does not show up under Settings > General > About.

KEY OBSERVATIONS (isolating the cause)

1. The battery works perfectly on another iPhone. When I attach the same battery to a different iPhone, the charge percentage and the accessory both display correctly. This proves the battery itself is not defective.

2. The battery firmware is up to date at version 101.0 (confirmed on the other iPhone). So this is not an outdated-firmware problem.

3. The iPhone Air's NFC hardware is functioning. Apple Pay / Wallet and other NFC features work normally, which indicates the NFC chip is not broken.

4. When the battery is fully drained to 0%, the iPhone Air DOES recognize it and shows 0%. As soon as it starts charging above 0%, the status disappears again. This strongly suggests a software bug in how accessory status is handled, not a hardware fault — if the hardware couldn't detect the accessory, it wouldn't display it even at 0%.

5. The status also disappears immediately when I connect a USB-C cable to charge the battery while it is attached to the phone (pass-through charging). The moment power is connected to the battery, the recognition is lost.

TROUBLESHOOTING ALREADY PERFORMED

- Force restarted the iPhone Air.

- Removed any case and cleaned the magnetic area on both the phone and the battery.

- Ensured the battery is centered and given time to authenticate.

- Confirmed the same battery and its firmware (101.0) work correctly on a different iPhone.

- Verified NFC works via Apple Pay / Wallet.

CONCLUSION

All evidence points to a software/firmware-level bug affecting the iPhone Air specifically: the battery is genuine and healthy, the firmware is current (101.0), the NFC hardware works, and the phone can recognize the battery at 0% but loses the status once charging begins. I believe this is the same issue other iPhone Air users have reported, which an Apple Store technician has previously logged in Apple's internal Feedback/Radar system.

REQUEST

Please confirm whether this is a known issue with an expected fix in an upcoming iOS/firmware update, and/or attach this report to the existing internal report for the iPhone Air MagSafe Battery. If a hardware diagnostic is recommended, I'm happy to arrange one, but the observations above indicate the hardware is functioning.

Device details (please fill in):

- iPhone Air, iOS version: 26.5.2

- iPhone Air MagSafe Battery firmware: 101.0

Thank you for your help.

Just so you are aware, you are not talking directly to Apple employees here. Instead, we are just fellow Apple-product user, like yourself, that are trying to assist others with issues that they are having with their Apple devices.

With that said, I suggest that you have two options going forward ... and you should try both:

  1. Option #1: Submit the issue directly to Apple here: Product Feedback - Apple
  2. Option #2: Contact Apple Support directly for further assistance with this matter. You can do so simply by selecting the "Support" link on the bottom-left of this forum's web page.

However, you still have the option to stick around here to see if anyone else may know of a potential solution.
