Gmail app battery drain on iPad despite minimal use

Hey,

I just noticed that over the last few hours, the Gmail app on my iPad drained 30% of the battery despite showing only 1 minute of background activity. What could have caused this? I obviously didn't use the app.

I've attached a screenshot.

Thank you!

Most Google apps seem resource-hungry beyond reason. Also any mail program is going to be checking for new messages in the background, so use resources even if not being actively used.

You can try quitting GMail when not in use. I'm not 100% sure how much that will help much. Mail apps may have background "helpers" running to check for new messages even when the user part of the app is closed. And Google is very found of these "minion" processes. Still worth a try.
