iPhone WhatsApp not sending messages, receiving/web ok

Hi everyone, I need help with a very strange WhatsApp issue.

For the past few days, I have been unable to send any messages from the WhatsApp app on my iPhone. Every text message, photo, sticker, or attachment stays stuck with the exclamation red mark icon and is never sent.

The strange part is that:

  • I can receive messages normally;
  • WhatsApp voice calls and video calls work correctly;
  • WhatsApp Web/Desktop works and I can send messages from there;
  • The same WhatsApp account works correctly on an Android phone (messages send normally).

I have already tried:

  • restarting the iPhone;
  • enabling/disabling Airplane Mode;
  • switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data;
  • completely reinstalling WhatsApp;
  • testing on a second iPhone (same issue);
  • updating to the latest iOS and WhatsApp versions.

The problem seems to affect only WhatsApp on iOS with my account.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Could this be related to an iOS-specific account synchronization issue, encryption keys/session problems, or a bug after an Android-to-iPhone transfer?

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hello Simo62bit, and welcome to the Apple Support Community.

Based on everything you’ve already tested, you’ve done an excellent job isolating the issue.

Since:

  • you can receive WhatsApp messages,
  • voice and video calls work normally,
  • WhatsApp Web/Desktop can send messages,
  • the same account works correctly on another device,
  • and you’ve already tested another iPhone,

this doesn’t appear to point to an iPhone hardware issue.

Instead, it suggests that the problem may be related to your WhatsApp account synchronization or another server-side condition that Apple cannot access or diagnose.

Could you also confirm the following?

  • Does the issue occur with every contact, including a brand-new conversation?
  • Are you using the latest version of WhatsApp from the App Store?
  • Does the problem continue after performing a force restart of your iPhone?
  • Did this begin after restoring a backup or transferring your WhatsApp account from another device?

Note:

Because WhatsApp is a third-party application, Apple cannot verify or modify your WhatsApp account, encryption keys or server synchronization. If the issue persists after confirming that iOS and WhatsApp are fully up to date, contacting WhatsApp Support would be the appropriate next step.

Important:

Before contacting WhatsApp, make sure your iPhone is updated to the latest compatible version of iOS and verify that WhatsApp has no pending update in the App Store.
