Safari struggles with the New York Times website
Even with the new OS, Safari chokes on the New York Times website. It works fine in Chrome

While NYT supports Safari, Chrome, and Firefox, they specifically recommend using Chrome. You will need to ask them why that is the case. It is known that website developers have a much easier time tracking users with the Chrome browser and makes those users more valuable to sell their information to advertisers. Safari will prevent websites trackers. In fact if you go to the NYT websites, on the Safari start page it will tell you that it has blocked the trackers from the NYT website. Mine shows it has blocked 7 trackers that NYT had attempted to use on me and below is a list of each one.
Besides that make sure you do not have any Ad Blockers on Safari or other Extensions installed. You can also try deleing your Cookies/Cache for the NYT.
